What is lymphoma?
Lymphomas are a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system refers to the entire system involved in the body's defense process. He understands: spleen, thymus, tonsils, lymph nodes... It is in fact, in the image of the blood system, a whole network transporting the lymph through the body. Lymph is the result of a filtration of the blood from all small vessels of the organism (capillaries), the result of which is a liquid containing a lot of water with proteins, fats that have been absorbed in the digestive tract and elements Allowing the defense of the organism.
Lymphomas can develop in any organ containing lymphoid tissue and therefore participate in the lymphatic system. But lymphomas will develop especially where this lymphoid tissue is most dense, especially in the lymph nodes, tonsils, the mucosa of the small intestine.
They occur when certain cells of the lymphatic system, lymphocytes, begin to be produced abnormally. These cells multiply uncontrolledly (malignant proliferation) and, as they live longer than healthy cells, they accumulate. They thus end up forming tumors in various elements of the lymphatic system, especially the lymph nodes that filter the lymph, causing their swelling. Other very different organs can also be affected by this disease since lymphocytes circulate throughout the body and in all organs.
